Why do some Christians experience more than their fair share of suffering and death? One family I know has had 5 people under 30 die in the last 6 years. They love the Lord and serve at their church, so what could God possibly be thinking? I truly believe it’s ok, even healthy to ask God these kinds of questions.
PSALM 13:1
How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
It’s important that we recognize our distance in our relationship with God. It often happens during challenging times when we feel overwhelmed by all the pain that life brings. Recognizing this distance is a step towards reconnecting with the Lord. It helps us rejoin our hearts back to our heavenly Father, who is always present, welcoming us home.
Isaiah 57:1-2
The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. 2 Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.
Our perspective is so different then God’s perspective. We only see how things effect our little sphere of influence, but God can see everyone though out all eternity. We see the physical, He knows the eternal. We can trust that He doesn’t make mistakes, even if our pain runs deep.
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
It’s healthy to be real with God and share our anger and confusion with Him. Being truthful leads us to intimacy and ultimately to healing.
