Revelation 2:14
Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality.
Most of us only know Balaam as the man whose donkey had some challenging words for him (Numbers 22:1-41). He brought about a lot of pain and destruction for the Israelites. Balak, the king of Moab hired Balaam the prophet to curse God’s wandering people. But Balaam refused to pronounce anything over God’s people that the Lord Himself had not told him to say. Even though the prophet wouldn’t curse the Israelites, he had a different plan to defeat them. He couldn’t curse them, but he could corrupt them. He told King Balak to put up a stumbling block by encouraging the Israelites to eat food that had been sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.
Before Moses lead his people out of Egypt, idol worship was common with the Hebrews. That’s why they were so quick to make a golden calf idol when Moses took so long to come back down the mountain. Instead of impacting the foreign land through God’s truth, the sins of the nation that they lived in, had become their sins.
John 8:44b
When Satan lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
This is exactly what we deal with today. Some in the church go back to their old sinful ways because they start believing the lies of the enemy. Lies become powerful when they are believed and acted upon. When the enemy can’t overpower us because of our faith, he can deceive us and get you to live as though the lies are true.
John 8:32
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
