Fearless

Does the thought of being asked to compromise your values trouble you? Why or why not?

Romans 8:28
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

At some point, most of us will have an authority figure ask us to do something that compromises our values and beliefs. Would you be willing to make a respectful appeal to them, to change their mind.

That’s what happened to Daniel when King Nebuchadnezzar gave an order that violated Daniel’s conscience. The king was tricked into demanding that everyone bow down and worship a statue when they heard the king’s music (Daniel 6). Daniel wouldn’t give in and he was thrown into a den with hungry lions all night. God closed the lion’s mouths and Daniel was spared.

Like it was with Daniel, the person in authority may stand their ground and you’ll need to ask God what you should do next. Maybe God will change the person’s heart or maybe he will change the situation so that what you’ve been asked to do is no longer necessary.

If your boss is asking you to violate your conscience, you might need to quit your job and trust God to provide a new one. He may be doing something that you can’t see yet. Hold on to God’s promise. No matter what, you can know that God is in control and He won’t let you go through this trial alone.

Romans 8:28
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Daniel lived in close relationship with God and he walked with God. That’s what gave Daniel the courage to stand up and not conform to the values around him, even when he didn’t know what the outcome would be.
