Intentionally Grateful

Intentionally Grateful

Psalm 100:4-5
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

Just recently I committed to eating vegan only for three months when my youngest daughter, who was worried about my health, asked me to give it a try. After just two weeks the pain in my knees from arthritis was mostly gone. I can breathe through my nose at night because I stopped eating cheese and my sinuses are clear. Now I sleep over six hours at night. Before this, I was pretty much a carnivore. It wasn’t a meal unless there was a lot of meat. The reality was most of my snacks also consisted of meat. I needed to learn new habits if my health was going to improve.

Learning new ways of doing things is an important part of growing and learning. Being intentionally grateful, not because of how we feel but by realizing how blessed we are to have a loving God who never leaves us to go through the challenges of the life alone. If we’re focused on ourselves most of the time, it’s difficult to be grateful when life gets stressful. When I work out in the gym, I target certain areas that I want to improve. Choosing to focus on being grateful for all that we do have, is like targeting a muscle and getting healthy in that area. When we flex are muscle of gratefulness, and get our eyes off ourselves, we are getting our soul healthy in Christ. So, let’s start counting our blessings by being intentionally grateful and remembering where God has been faithful in the past, instead of focusing on what’s going wrong.
