Your Choices Affect Your Prayer Life

Your Choices Affect Your Prayer Life

Why is it that so many people’s lives start to change and then they make a few bad decisions, and they start going back to their old ways again? True recovery requires prayer. When we add prayer to our recovery process, our habits and hurts start to heal. Still sometimes we try to change our lives in our own strength, but lasting recovery requires prayer.

Why do some people seem to be more successful than others in prayer?

James 5:16
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

So often we think of prayer as speaking to God. One of the important parts of prayer is confessing our sins and them listening to God for His response through the word and then responding with obedience.

God loves us enough to uncover our shallow worship and prayer. Real life means real worship and intimacy in communication. God created us to be in an ongoing relationship with Him, and He won’t accept shallow, surface change. He blesses with life transformation. But this miracle starts with obedience to what God is saying to us in our prayers.

Do you feel comfortable bringing your concerns to God? Why or why not?

No matter what kind of challenges come into our lives, recovery is on the horizon when we turn to God in prayer. Only the Lord can bring lasting transformation. The lesson is often found in the journey itself.

Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
