There is true power in the words we use. They can either build up or tear down. They can either give life or destroy. I have had to apologize to my kids many times for not saying the right thing at the right time. God’s words hold even more power. God create the galaxies through His words.
Psalm 33:6
By the word of the Lord, the heavens were made.
God spoke the earth into creation. He also spoke humanity into creation.
Genesis 1:26a
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image.
Words truly have the power to build up, but they also have the power to destroy. Look at how sin entered our lives. The serpent spoke to Eve and created doubt on God’s words. This led to the first lie and the first sin, resulting in death. We were separated from God with no way to deal with our sin. God spoke promises to His people which were eventually realized when the Word who “became flesh dwelt among us,” Jesus Christ!
Words are very powerful. So how do we handle the power of our words? If our tongues are capable of either life or death, how do we speak? The book of Proverbs has a lot to say about the power of the tongue.
Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Those who love to use the power of the tongue will reap the fruit of either death or life. How great is it when we are able to speak blessings into the lives of the people around us.
Proverbs 15:1-2
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.
