Ephesians 4:1-3
Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.
What causes us to isolate ourselves from others?
Focusing on ourselves in a negative way can lead to isolation. Either what happened or didn’t happen to us or for us. Humility isn’t created by thinking poorly of yourself. Humility is the opposite of self-centeredness. Humility is when you don’t think about yourself. Humility is when you think about God and others.
With all the wars and natural disasters around the world, it’s easy to deal with depression and discouragement by stepping away from others. We are created in the image of God and that means we are highly social beings in need of experiencing the love of God and other people. When we are isolated, it’s easy to become self-focused and struggle with hearing God’s truth.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
When we focus on seeking God truth for our lives, we get our eyes off ourselves and that leads to asking God what His will is for our lives. When we humble the lies that the enemy has been trying to shove down our throats are replaced with God’s truth about who we are and how valuable we are to our Lord and Savior.
