Matthew 5:13-16
The Sermon On The Mount (Series)
2 Corinthians 5:17-18
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
When Christ is glorified we are on the right path. I want to start today by talking about two deadly elements in chemistry that the Bible is fascinated with.
Sodium and Chlorine.
If sodium is swallowed, it immediately reacts with the moisture in the throat tissue, causing extreme burning and tissue damage. Chlorine gas is toxic if inhaled and will cause a painful death. God takes two things that by themselves are toxic and combines them in such a way that they are necessary for life.
Matthew 5:13
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
We are called to be salt of the earth. Salt is valued for its effect of preserving, enhancing, cleansing and life giving.
Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
We are to let (our will is involved)
our light (a reflection of God’s life in us)
shine through so God is Glorified.
The moon has no light of it’s own, it simply reflects the light of the sun but poets share beautifully about the moonlight as if it were it’s own source.
