Colossians 3:1-4
Who Is Jesus? (Series)
Colossians 3:1-3
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
Jesus is our life.
Paul writes about our relationship with Jesus, and our dependency on Him, by saying He is our life.
John 11:20
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;
Jesus is speaking to Martha, whose brother Lazarus just died.
Jesus has authority over death and promises resurrection to those who believe in him. Jesus is the source of spiritual and eternal life.
Life is not ultimately found in possessions, achievements, or circumstances. Eternal life is found in Jesus Christ.
What area of your life do you struggle with being dependent on Jesus?
Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Paul is describing what happens spiritually when a person places their faith in Jesus. Their old identity, living independently of God and relying on their own righteousness, has been put to death.
The Christian life is not simply; I will try harder to live like Jesus. It is, I belong to Jesus, and His life transforms the way I live.
Christianity isn’t just preparation for eternal life. Jesus changes the way we live right now, when we live by faith, and not in our own strength.
Colossians 3:4
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Because Jesus is our life, we will be revealed with him in glory.
How does having eternal life right now change how I live?
