Jesus Holds The Keys To The Treasures Of Heaven

John was led by the Spirit to right to seven churches. Only one church was praised for doing many things that honored God.

Revelation 3:7-10
“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. 9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you. 10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.

The city of Philadelphia was 28 miles southeast of Sardis. It was a commercial city located in an area that was known for its trade routes and beautiful vineyards. Unfortunately, it was plagued with earthquakes that destroyed the city several times. The city was named in honor of king of Pergamum who was known for truly loving his brother Attalus Philadelphus. “Philadelphus” means Brotherly Love. Even today, Christian testimony continues in the city.

The holiness of Christ is a frequent truth in Scripture. Being holy, Jesus is worthy to judge the spiritual life of the Philadelphia church. “Who holds the key of David” refer to Isaiah 22:20-22, where the key of the house of David was given to Eliakim by King Hezekiah who then had access to all the wealth of the king. The key to the house of David” tells how Eliakim would soon be in authority as a Prime Minister in the city. The “Key” represents his authority. The reference here seems to be the key to Spiritual Treasures. Like God the Father handed the keys of authority over to Jesus Christ. Christ has the authority, to open and shut the doors of the kingdom!
