God Is Our Refuge And Our Strength

God Is Our Refuge And Our Strength

Psalm 18:2
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Twenty-five years ago, my wife Julie and I started a baby’s house deep in the Ugandan jungle with seven babies, all less than a year old. It didn’t take long for people in the area to reach out for help in many ways.

Hope was a newborn who was discarding down the fifteen-foot-deep hole of a Pit latrine (toilet) with the umbilical cord still attached. It took a group of young men around ten hours to dig her out after she was discovered. Lying there in the filth, a positive future for Hope didn’t seem possible. They brought her to us, and everyone started praying. There were so many things that could have gone terribly wrong. Head or back trauma from the fall, or infection from lying in the filth so long right after birth. Miraculously hope had been protected by God’s hand during dangerous first few hours of life. God really was Hopes refuge and deliver. Hope is a happy and healthy young woman now in Uganda.

Psalm 46:1-3
1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

No matter what you are going through, God hears your prayers and promises to be with you no matter what you’re experiencing. Sometimes He miraculously delivers you from an awful situation and sometimes He gives you the strength to be mentally, emotionally, and relationally whole in the midst of the chaos. Experience victory by making God your stronghold.
