John 1:1-2
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
Jesus Christ is the creative Word. There is a connection between John 1:1 and Genesis 1:1.
The word always existed.
The Word was with God: A special relationship of eternal fellowship in the Trinity.
The word was God.
John 1:3
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
Why is there something rather than nothing?
All Creation was made by the Word in relation with the Father and the Spirit. John stressed the work of the Word.
He came to reveal the Father and the work of revelation began in Creation, for Creation reveals God.
John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Christ the eternal Logos, who is God, came to earth as man. He did not merely “appear” like a man. He became a man. In other words, humanity was added to Christ’s deity. And yet Christ, in becoming “flesh,” did not change.
Revelation 1:7-8
“Look, he is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”; and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.” So shall it be! Amen. “I am the Alpha and Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
We are told to look for He is coming. This is His second coming which will be with the clouds.
The Alpha and the Omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. God is at the beginning of all things and also at their end. He is the eternal God, unlimited by time.
What does that mean for us?
