1 John Scriptures
Locked In (Series)
The apostle John states the purpose in his first letter.
1 John 5:13
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
John devotes an entire letter on this subject. It’s important that we not doubt our salvation and God’s promises and integrity.
Consider 8 markers given to us.
1) A desire to tell others about Christ.
1 John 1:1-4
2) Daily obedient living and lifestyle.
1 John 1:5-7, 1 John 2:3-6, 1 John 5:18-20
3) A conscience sensitive to our own sins.
1 John 1:8-10
4) Temptation as a testing of our faith.
1 John 2:15-17
5) Life changes our desires, habits and behaviors.
1 John 3:9-10
Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. 10 So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.
6) A genuine love and compassion for other believers.
1 John 3:14
If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead.
(1 John 3:17-29)
1 John 4:20
If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?
7) The Holy Spirit prompts us to obey and recognize His presence.
1 John 3:21-24
8) Our willingness to acknowledge Christ.
1 John 4:15-16
